While water is now filtered and disinfected, it hasn't always been that way and some researchers are wondering if we are removing too many natural things that humans have not only been exposed to through out history, but have actually can help us stay helathy. For instance, without good bacteria in our stomachs, we could not digest food. Now research is wondering the same thing about certain intestinal worms.

Has the worm turned?
Some researches from the University of Iowa Health has been studying the effect of helminthic therapy on inflammatory bowel diseases, such as ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. They have done studies on people with this medical condition using pig whip worms which have shown improvements in some of the patients. There are theories as to why the worms help, but noone knows for sure. Of course they don't why magnets work either, but they do. Something to keep in mind when we try to remove everything from the water we drink.
