Stonefly nymphs are found under stones and amongst debris in the water. When small, stonefly larvae feed on dead plant material and one celled organisms (protozoans). As they grow larger they become predators, ingesting their prey whole. They are, in turn, an important food for fish. The adult has transparent wings with visible veins and is gray and brown.
